Welcome to my Visual Studio Developer Pages. You'll find a variety of info here including focused info on Visual Basic, Patterns & Practices, Software Factories, Enterprise Library and more. I cover both the current products, plus give links and resources on future technologies.

Now that Visual Studio 2008 has launched - grab yourself a copy. You can find the Express Editions here (did I mention they were free?). One of my favorite VS2008 features is multi-targeting - the ability to build applications for different versions of the .NET framework (currently supporting v2.0, v3.0 and v3.5). This means that you don't need to have VS 2005 on your dev box any more - you can target 2005 project development from within the VS 2008 IDE. Very cool.

New Developer Series: Russ' Toolshed - It's All About the Tools! - Monday, July 13, 2009

Russ Fustino (MS Developer Evangelist) and I have teamed up to create a new video series aimed at the serious .NET developer - It's All About the Tools! What started at local user groups and CodeCamps, branched into a traveling roadshow (mostly Russ traveling), and now to a TV show format. The best part is that you don't have to travel to see it!

We've recorded and posted 3 full shows to Channel9 at Microsoft, and we're now posting each individual show segment as a Toolshed Tooltip. So rather than having to watch an hour long show (which are chock full of information), you can pick and choose just the tools you want to see in 10 minute segments.

Take a look and let us know what you think. We're open to suggestions for new tools, criticism if you have that, and any other ideas you might have. My email is: stan _at_ vbnetexpert _dot_ com. Please use subject line: It's All About the Tools!

New Webcast Presentations: SCSF and WSSF (Software Factories) - Thursday, June 21, 2007

I've just finished two new presentations based on Microsoft Patterns & Practices Software Factories. The Smart Client Software Factory (SCSF) and Web Service Software Factory (WSSF) are powerful and extensible application-generation frameworks that can help you and your organization become more efficient at building enterprise-class service applications.

These are overview decks - the most value lies in the Resources and Learn More slides at the end, which have links for downloading and learning more about SCSF, WSSF, the Guidance Automation Toolkit, and the communities around these excellent tools. See my Downloads page for the slide decks.
